Hey! I hadn't seen this before, but this site has most of the scripts from the series posted: sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/2019/08/mp-6610-bucky-ohare-and-toad-wars-1991.htmlIt sounds like they were included as bonus features for the 2004 Metrodome DVD? The Christy Marx scripts are apparently on that release, but were not uploaded to the site. If anyone has that DVD release, I'd love to see the Christy Marx scripts (especially for "A Fistful of Simoleans"). -JJ

Indeed, because Christy forbids the uploading of her scripts online and I have given my word.
By all means, seek out the old DVD. But bear in mind that what you see at my site is the result of my page-by-page restoration of these scripts on Adobe Pro. The scans made when Sunbow was being closed down are so horrendously bad that the individual file size was driven up to 100mb+ each.

Question, this is a UK dvd, right? I recall that's why I never bought it, since I'm in the US. If that's the case, any idea whether that region coding affects whether computers can read the disc to access the scripts?
Honestly, I've always wanted to read the "Fistful of Simoleans" script cause I was curious if a certain scene was originally longer, but cut down for time.

A ruge-of-thumb is 1 page of screenplay equals one minute of screentime. These are 45 page scripts, so are they accurate to the episodes? Or are the episodes cut versions? I ask only because it's difficult to read a script and then watch an episode and remember everything that's supposed to be there.

That is the standard for live-action, animation has had a long journey to get there. At the start of the 80s, scripts were an average of 60 pages, roughly 20 to 25 seconds per page. In 1983/84, they transitioned to 30 seconds per page which lasted all the way to Bucky. This may have been one of, if not the last show before a further transition took place which reduced scripts to an average of 35 pages.

There's this one specific moment that always felt abrupt, and just feels like something was cut out.
It's when they land on Warren, and everyone's talking about how it looks like the Toads can change the climate of the planet. Willy is with everyone in one shot, we punch in on Jenny for a line, then suddenly Willy is separated from everyone and yells "over here" cause he found something.
In animation you have a really hard limit on how long your episode can be, and sometimes (often times) your storyboard will come in over that limit. If you're lucky you can trim a shot here, a line there, and get to time, but other times you have to lift whole beats or even scenes.
I always wondered if that's what happened there, since it's an uncharacteristically abrupt jump in the storytelling. Which is why I was asking about that script!

Indeed, because Christy forbids the uploading of her scripts online Has she said why? I'm all for honoring someone's wishes, but these are scripts from a super old cartoon show almost nobody knows about anymore, so I'm curious to know what the big deal is. Is it just the principle of the thing? There's this one specific moment that always felt abrupt, and just feels like something was cut out. It's when they land on Warren, and everyone's talking about how it looks like the Toads can change the climate of the planet. Willy is with everyone in one shot, we punch in on Jenny for a line, then suddenly Willy is separated from everyone and yells "over here" cause he found something. Yeah, if memory serves, there's an entire deleted sequence where they get attacked by some Storm Toads, after which Willy finds the broken toad communicator. Another scene that got nixed is when Dogstar and his men have to navigate a series of booby traps to get into Tinker's office.

I just checked and regardless of the region, you can view the scripts from the DVD set. Just PDF files. I'm in the US as well. If region is what's keeping you from getting this DVD set, just get a region free dvd player. I personally have a region free dvd/blu-ray player and this series looks great on an hdtv cropped to 4:3. Sure, there are some issues with compression and mpeg artifacts at points, but overall it looks great. Only other option for a quality viewing of this wondrous series would be the original VHS tapes with an s-video, component or hdmi vcr. Which I can say progressive scan hdmi vcr looks very pretty. Cheers, matey.

Even though they are not going to be posted anywhere, I had to do a restoration job on Christy's six scripts with Adobe Pro. Just so that I could read for myself and have them actually load.
