Hey There,
I have a small problem with something on the MB. I know we are all BoH fans here adn some of us have been around BoH since it first started, especially the older ones on teh MB. As i know i made remarks before about eh web series being what people aer looking for adn Rygar said thta i was only partially right. He said that the Fan FIction was a chunk of the site as well. What my problem is this; When a new fan fiction pops up to be read, the writer ask for opinions from the reader, right? Now i know that I, HUsh (or whatever his name is now), Dahaka, Powree, and COrporal are teh only ones who repsond. I know teh senior writers are busy with the web series, but i am positive that therer are moer members than that. Why don't you other folks give opinions? We ask for them to improve our writing skills and come up with new ideas to add tot ehfan side of BoH. I don't mean to sound like i am griping, but i know i would like to hear some of the newer folks opinions as well as the older ones. There i said my piece, so hope to hear something at lest.

I agree with the Pskotic ninja Rabbit. No offense to Pow, Psyko, Dahaka and Corporal and the senior writers but We can't improve on our writing if the same people continue to give opinions on our fics. We need more people to review or at least say what they think of the fics. Tis all we fan fic writers are simply asking.

If I choose to stick (havn't made up my mind yet, but this seems like a nice forum) around I will most likely have a look at some, assuming I have the time. My uni course can be quite demanding sometimes

I read the stories as best I can in the short time I have to read them, which is rather amazing I can senice I'm pretty much working from sunup to sundown and when on the computer limited to only about a half hour incriment of use. Now, I read fast, but I'm nowhere that fast a reader, much to my dismay. But when theres a new one, and I squeeze in time, I'll certainly read them and give some comments.

I don't really have an excuse, I guess....other than the fact that I'm not terribly big on fanfics, either writing or reading them. But, I guess it stands to reason that I should, out of courtesy, have a gander at some of these things and give my two cents about them. You really called me out on this, psyko.....

Wow. I never thought a post here about Bucky O'Hare could actually make me angry.
I've been involved in fan fiction since I was 13, which was ten years ago. I've ran SWAT Kat archives, the only Underdog archive, and I built the Bucky O'Hare online fandom up from scratch. I'm a Fanfiction.net author. I taught a class on it at Brown University. Fan ficion is my passion, second only to my life as a professional writer for the mainstream.
That said, there is no social faux pasworst then calling people out by name and demanding they read your work. NOBODY is obligated to read your writing until you're paying them. I don't even push my manuscripts on my relatives and friends, because I like having relatives and friends, and that's for manuscripts I'm trying to publish and make a living off of.
I have rarely asked for opinions on the web series. On the strange occasion on which I have, almost no one has given one, even in poll form, and I've been fine with that. I know that fandom activity is optional. Even I'm guilty of reading stories on Fanfiction.net and not leaving comments.
The reason I don't ask people to read my work if they express no interest in it, or demand that they give me feedback if they read it but clearly have no interest in feedback, is because it puts them in a rather awkward social position. You see, as a writer, I understand that sometimes I write things that are terrible. People that like me don't like telling me that, because they don't want to offend me, but some of them doing like lying either. So they choose not to say anything, which is appropriate and really the best option for them and for me.
Years and years of rejection by publishing companies has taught me to have a rather thick skin about this sort of thing, but in my experience in fandom, fanfic authors haven't got a thick skin and will be traumatized by the most minor of "flames" left in their comment box at Fanfiction.net. It shouldn't even be called a flame - it's not a personal attack, just someone telling you that you're writing stinks. But those two are hard to seperate when you care about your writing so deeply.
About 8 years ago when I wrote the SWAT Kat archive, I had this one author who begged me to read and review and maybe edit her work, because she really respected me. So I thought, hey, cool, I'd be honored. Then she sent me a gigantic, meandering, pornographic, WAY off-topic SWAT Kat piece that was the most horribly-written thing I had ever seen by a person who was over 21 and obviously could string two sentences together, but for some reason chose to write this instead. I spent days agonizing how to break it to her, how to say things like, "Well, if you're trying to capture the spirit of the cartoon show, maybe the characters shouldn't all be magical faeries who have sex with each other every six lines and go through the Stargate to the transformer planet" without offending her. After toning down my comments what I thought was an exceptional amount, I sent them off and she was so mad at me that she started a huge feud and her own archive, and even got several other authors to move their work to her archive instead of mine. So I decided to get out of SWAT Kat fandom altogether because I was so mad at her.
So you're asking me what I think of the fanfics. Well, I think they're all decent, and that's about as specific I'm going to get. Am I going to give you all personalized comments? No, I am not. Do I have other things to do? Yes, I do. I'm very busy working on the web series, and I bet if you ask the other senior writers, you'll get the same answer, because (a) we are very busy, and (b) we generally make it a point not to critique other people's work, and trust me, we're all better off that way.

I'm not really asking the senior writers to R&R my fics. I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway. I'm just asking for opinions and comments on my fic since I'm new and I barely have any experience in writing.
I have only started writing for the love of it since I released my preview of Demons of the Past. But I'll admit this before I discovered the web series I hated writing stories. Because when I wrote stories before I was forced to write them just to get a decent grade in school. So I can't put my own emotions and feeling into those stories I wrote and thus making the stories dull and boring in my opinion. And because of that I never enjoyed writing I hated it so much. But when I came across this place and read the web series and the Fan fics. It slowly drove me to give writing a second chance. And when I finally sent Rygar my first fic.
I felt nothing but sick. Since what if my fic was like the crap I wrote in school? And I tend to get panic attacks before and after doing something that I give second thoughts about. But I was happy to find out people reviewed my fic. I didnt care if they hated it or not because if they did dislike my fic and said it out loud here in the mb I actually appreciate bad reviews as much as good reviews when it comes to my fics because the person was honest to break it to me that my fic sucked. And I can simply redeem myself in another fic by learning from my mistakes. Becaue the Truth always hurts it always does in one way or another. But the truth could always help us in the things we do.
I'm sorry if I insulted the senior writers and members in any way from what I said now and in the post earlier. But to sum it all up I'm an inexperienced writer who doesnt know any better because I'm new in the writing world. I only discovered how to put my own emotions when I write when I was half way through finishing part 2 of my fics. All those romantic scenes in that fic were written while I was chatting with a girl who I really loved. And after nearly 8 years of writing for school work and all it was only this year did I discover how to put my emotions into the things I write.
So thats what I have to share. And I'll say it again I apoligize for upsetting Dj and the senior writers for what I said earlier and also to the ones who were insulted from I just said in this post. I still have so much to learn about writing so if I complain again for reviews and Opinions please be patient with me since I could tend to be paranoid or stressed out from all the things I'm going through right now. Thanks.

FIrst of all DJ, i honestly feel that your posting is uncalled for. Nowhere in the messages is the a "demand" for people to read scripts. Second of all, in the postings, it is acknowledged that the senior writers are busy with the webseries. The only question was why.
As for your SWAT KAT incident, i am sorry thta the writer wasn't able to listen to teh truth. MOst of us ask for the criticsm, because we know not all people like the same style of writing. We ask to help to improve our skills. As i have said before, i have been writing for fifteen years and i am in the process of getting a book publish. Yes i have deal with the denials and their saying my work isn't good enough. I haven't developed the thick skin you talk of and still ask for people to read my work, expecting themto say it sucks or how much they hate it, or how lame my description and method of writing is. It is a risk any writer knows they have to take, to improve their skill. Even you as a proffessional writer should know this. Yeah, i started at teh age of 13 as well, but in those 15 years, not once have i ever demanded a person to read my work. I have asked thta they reda it. If they say no, then it is no. I have never insisted that the senior writers put their personal life on hold and put teh web series on hold to read my work. I have not seen any other fan writer do that either.
As for those of you who don't want to red fan fictions, that is your choice and no one is trying to change it. SOme of us were just curious as to why only a handful of people did respond.

I apologize if I offended anyone. I'm very hard to get riled up, but when it happens, I usually post something that I regret.
In response to people generally asking for opinions on their writing, I'm not actually entirely against someone sending me an email asking me to read their fic and give an opinion. I like other writers. I like encouraging other writers. It's just that it bothers me when someone calls me out on it on a message board. That's totally different from emailing me.
In response to Hush Mazmanos: You have nothing to worry about. You're a fine writer and you will get better and better the more you write. My advice is to just write and write and write and don't worry about what it is or if anyone will like it. Experience is everything. I would be happy to look at your work if you want to send me a message. (dj_clawson@yahoo.com)

Hey there,
I feel a little low right now. I kind of went off a little in response to DJ's first reply. I didn't mean to make anyone feel like they were on the spot or being called out.
DJ, i want to say sorry if i offended you with this thread. That wasn't my intention.
Everyone else, I didn't mean to put onyone on the spot like Koosh or Drake. This thread wasn't a call out. It was just a question. I mean there are a lot of members here and there was no ersponse from over half of them. The little fan fiction group replied all the time. The Senior writers have their hands full with teh Season 4 scripts.
If anyone is still angry with me over this, go ahead and messae me or email me. My adress in is my profile.
Sorry again everyone.

Feh, no worries Psy. To be honest though, this post did remind me to read some of the fan fictions. I'd actully partly blanked them from my mind till this was mentioned.

Your intentions were god Psy, all you wanted was more people to review the fics. I don't blame you since most of the MB members have gone away and never to come back.
