No I mean in the Spielberg film he's a hillbilly... I didn't like the way the non martian aliens landed with the lightning. Or Cruises acting... or the supposedly funny dialogue that struck me as cheesy e.g.
Robbie - Are these terrorists Ray - No I think they're from some place else Robbie - What... like europe?

Indeed so, now you see why I dislike the film?
What's weirder is the fact that it had such a crappy appearance, and the critics over here gave it four-star because of the visual effects!
I hate to see what'll happen to THE LAND IRONCLADS.

I understand, sorry about that. It's just that I feel that I'm the only one here who dislikes this new film.

I didn't watch the whole of SW 2, so I can't really comment. I stopped watching it halfway through when it came out on video, but I haven't watched it since as I've outgrown Star Wars.

Yes, and I've upped their karma for them!
So, Herschey, what disappointed you in the film?

Hehe, an easier question to answer would have been what didn't disappoint me. First of all the storyline, in my opinion, was appalling. The way the Martians kinda rode the lightning bolts underground to their awaiting tripods was ridiculous (in my opinion). There were innumerable plot holes, Spielberg's attempt to "De-Cruise Tom" failed miserably and he doesn't appear to be the ordinary, blue-collar worker Steven was aiming for. Cruise has an uncanny knack for escaping death in shamelessly Deus Ex Machina situations. There is one scene in particular where I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, it was so heavily laden with highly overt moral and social messages that it was like an episode of Barney the Dinosaur. Not to mention the way it's total lack of cohesion to the book or even the 1950's film. If the Non-Martians had been on earth before how come they are susceptible to disease here? If they were on earth millions of years ago why not conquer then, when there was no resistance? I could go into all the things I found flawed but I'd have to publish it in book form. All in all the best part of the film, for me, was the constant jeering by the audience and the witty remarks they made.

No problem, you've earned it!
You're right, though, these aliens could've conquered Earth while it was still primitive and save the hassle of razing cities to the ground, as well as having to deal with the armies.
I've seen a clip of the tripod machines, and I am severly disappointed. All we have is a tank with jointed legs attached to it.
Wells described the legs as flexible, like tendrils, and the machinery was said to have bits of metallic rope dangling from it, and a cage to contain 15 prisoners.

I wished I'd gone to see Batman begins again rather than waste several hours of my life watching Steven Spielberg and Cruise defecate all over the works of Welles.

I've heard some good things about BATMAN BEGINS, so that I will recommend.
They didn't necessarily eat humans, Hush, just drained them of their blood. I wouldn't say their vampires full stop, they drank blood because they simply added it to their own bloodstream, as they had no digestive tracks.
