"Just a weapon and some spare clothes," The Toad answered. "Anything else, I wouldn't bother with. The extra baggage would just weigh down the Double-Bubble."

Vernita stood up as straight as she could, fakely patting her actually empty pockets. Swallowing up her fear she nodded and said, "I have all that I need."

The Toad simply grunted, and escorted Vernita through the shadows to a hidden part of the Spaceport, where the Double Bubble was "parked". Because this part was so desolate, nobody noticed his ship landing.
"Get in," he gestured, opening the one pod for Vernita.

Vernita hesitated, peeking in at it. Somehow the idea of stepping into a Double Bubble seemed terrifyingly like right into a predator's jaws. The shiver running down her spine forced her to stand up straight and take a step back...

The Toad sighed angrily.
"Look, if this thing was gonna hurt you, I wouldn't be here. You've got two options: Stay here and get found out or get in and be safe."

Vernita gave the toad a foul stare and then lowered herself into one of the twin cockpits.

The Toad paid no heed to Vernitas' stare, and clambered into his own cockpit.
When the two pods closed, the Double Bubble slowly ascended until they were cruising through space at a fantastic speed.
"ETA to Mothership, 35 minutes," he murmured to the computer.

Vernita folded her paws in her lap, fidgeting quietly as she watched the stars fly by.
"I... I've never been so close to space before. I mean... There's only a few inches of material between us and the vaccuum. Kind of terrifying, isn't it?"
She looked to the toad, hoping to break the awkward silence. Her heart still raced inside her chest, threatening to burst free.

"You get used to it," the Toad said at last. "Besides, this is polyslimurthene, one of the toughest clear-plastics in the Galaxy. You're quite safe."

Vernita nodded and reclined, closing her eyes... Was she getting comfortable? Succumbing? Regardless she had reached the point of no return...

For a long time, the Double Bubble was simply cruising through space, passing an infinite stretch of blackness dotted with stars and distant planets.
After sometime, the Toad Mothership could finally be seen in the distance.
"AN-89 to Mothership, request Docking Clearance," the Toad muttered.
"Mothership to AN-89, you are cleared to dock. Land and taxi to Bay Three. Repeat: Bay Three."

Vernita closed her eyes and steeled herself, as if imaging the part would make it so. She pictured herself the sternest model of a female soldier, sitting up straight and staring so intensely at the mothership as if to make it explode with her eyes.
"What will happen once we arrive?" She said quietly, not even turning to look at the pilot.

Awaiting them when they arrived was none other than the Toad Air Marshall himself, standing with his arms folded behind his back, swagger stick in hand, his two assistants Frix and Frax on either side of him. The Air Marshall had severe misgivings about allowing a mammal on board his Mothership, even if she was a traitor, but he trusted Major Padd's judgement. He knew Padd would not make a decision like this lightly. OOC: First appearance of an official character in some time.

OOC: Suits me.
The Toad alighted and saluted at the sight of the Air Marshal.
"Air Marshal, sir," he barked obediently. "We shall be on our way once the Double Bubble is refuelled, sir."

"Yes," said the Air Marshall, "I have instructions to give you anything you require."
