* With Warrens space defences disabled the fight has come to the planets surface. The home guard, being to far stretched across the planet, have resorted to conscripting any able bodied hare. *
A group of Hares are hiding out in the remains of a shelled building. Only a few of the non-wounded are armed, one of them is a 20-25 year old brown hare called Wild. The self appointed leader of the group has not returned from a supply run and Wild is currently hunched next to a window searching up and down the streets for any sign of him... or anyone else for that matter.

Sharr, the large brown bear who had been sitting in the corner of the room, rises to her feet. She is a good head taller than the Hares around her.
"The sergeant should have been back by now. Don't you think we should try looking for him?"

* Wild looks at sharr . It is clear is very tired and very tense *
"And then what Sharr! Some of us go out and don't come back? What about the wounded?", Wild looks at one of his friends who is laid out on a make shift stretcher holding a compression pad to a wound on his stomach... "I'm sorry Sharr... You're right of course, we can't stay here with out more medical assistance or supplies. I think we should all follow your command now... we could do a poll but I know you'd win. You choose who else should be in the search party and i'll take them out into the field...".

"Me?"
Sharr looks as battered as Wild, but more composed. His suggestion seems to amuse her. She exhales loudly through her nose.
"I am no war leader. I am a priest! I saw my first Toad an hour ago when they stormed the spaceport."
She shakes her head.
"If the Toads find us here, we die. There aren't enough of us to fight even a small squad off. Does anyone here know where the nearest hospital or pharmacy is?"

* Wild waves to his right, swaying unsteadily *
"Yeah it's about a fifteen minute journey west. But its exposed land on one side and the other side has high rise buildings with good sniper vantage points... I doubt many of us could make the run...", He steadies himself against a pillar, "It's your call though... you are in charge now, like it or not, so you use your judgement... like you say we probably won't last any longer here anyway...".

"How about sewers or subways? Could we go underground where they might not think to look?"

"Ha Ha Ha... I don't know Warren that intimately! But I suppose it stands to reason that there should be some underground access or maintenance tunnels... we might have to make a return trip for some of the wounded but I think if we can find a nearby entrance we might stand a chance", contemplates Wild, "Though whether or not we can access the hospital from there is questionable... I'm willing to give it a shot. My maser rifles almost fully charged so if it comes to it I could hold of any attacker long enough for you to return here with any survivors".

"Very well. I will go and return with what I can. Might it be worth moving the least injured down into the basement? You might have more luck hiding there."

Outside in the street, a group of about twenty Stormtoads, led by a toad officer, are patrolling. The officer, who is dressed in a uniform similar to Frix and Frax, stands in the rubble-strewn street and watches as his men literally go door-to-door, smashing windows and kicking in doors, looking for any hiding hares.
In a couple of buildings, they do manage to find some hares, who immediately surrender. Being mostly ordinary civilians who came here after the last invasion, they are unused to situations such as this, and the sight of severl armed individuals, be they toads or otherwise, is enough to kow them into submission.
The toad officer watches impassively as the Stormtoads haul whimpering children and old hares out into the streets, lining them up and chaining them together. In fact, he looks bored more than anything. He also looks far too young to be commanding a battalion of Stormtoads, suggesting that the Toad Empire is hard up for good officers...

* Wild tries to straighten himself out to his full height but he is far too tired and pained *
"Frell no! If anyone goes out it's me! You're the strongest here Sharr so it's stands to reason that you should stay with the weakes-", at that moment he hears the stormtoads approaching (that is to say he hears doors being battered down, windows being smashed, mammals crying out), "They're here! They're nearly on this street! Come on you lot help me take the wounded! Anyone who can walk, WALK!".

The toad officer held up his hands to get everyone's attention. "Ladies and gentlemen, please may I have your attention," he announced, and all eyes were upon him. "You are now prisoners of the Toad Empire and will be taken to the nereast holding center. Anyone who resists or attempts to escape will be shot."
As the young officer spoke, his Stormtoads were still fanning out among the houses, getting dangerously close to the building where Wild and the others were hiding.

"There is no way to get out now."
Without apparent effort Sharr picks up four wounded people and hoists them on to her shoulders.
"It looks like the toads have made our decision for us."
She walks further into the building.

Wild, lacking Sharrs immense strength, has to carry one person at a time. He gently lifts his half conscious friend and follows in Sharrs trail... the other unwounded mammals join in and try to help the wounded move deeper into the bombed out building.

Two of the Stormtoads approach the building, one of them saying, "I think I can hear something moving around inside."
"Yeah, me too," adds his partner. He is reaching out for the handle on the front door and about to open it when the officer calls over.
"You two! Get a move on! We've got as many prisoners as we can safely transport without incident, and our orders are to sanitize the area."

Handing the rabbits she was carrying off to some of the walking wounded, Sharr doubles back through the building. She waits until the toads are far enough into the building that they cannot be seen from the street. She waits until the first one steps through the doorway next to her. Then she spins and slams the end of her staff hard into his chest. She feels bones break as he is sent flying backwards into a wall and lands in a broken heap. The second toad brings his maser to bear only for her to knock it away and brain him with a reverse blow. She then picks up their masers and retreats back into the building.
