"MAJOR CANE, GET YOUR WARTY BACKSIDE OVER HERE AT THE DOUBLE!!!" Ximenex roared, with his grabber-arm chomping angrily in the bitter-cold.

Major Cane squared his jaw as Admiral Ximerax shouted, then stepped around the wing of the ship. He was at least a foot taller than the Admiral, and considerably broader. Anyone really close to him might have heard a low growl escape his lips. He signalled his conscripts to pull the netting over Ximerax's ship. He stopped less than a meter from the Admiral and looked down at him. Bad tempered and bloody minded as he knew himself to be, he could see from Ximerax's uniform that he was a senior officer. This was the reason he did not follow through on his initial impulse and cuff the bad mouthing pond life around the head. He breathed slowly, rapidly cooling as it met the freezing air.
"Yes, sir. How may I assist you?"

Regardless of height, Ximenex smacked Cane square in the jaw with his mechanical arm.
"I have poured a lot of resources into this base, Major, and what do I find in my inspection?! 176 violations in maintenance regulations and you galavanting off around the mountains! It amazes me how you are able to send the very few slaves that the Empire demands with your inefficient machinations!" Ximenex was fuming, with his veins throbbing across his neck.
"Do you realize what this would mean if mighty KOMPLEX found out how much Imperial funding you've wasted?! I ask for an efficient colony, and you give me a matchbox!"

Cane's face twitched slightly as his neuroprogramming derailed a train of thought that would have been hazardous to Ximerax's health. This is why, instead of grabbing his neck and pounding his head until is burst like an overripe peach, he half turned and pointed at the mountains in the distance.
"Do you see those mountains, sir? They represent the largest enemy stronghold we have been able to locate on this miserable world. We are here performing recognisance, not gallivanting."

"And how do you explain this?!" Ximenex slapped his report in Canes' hand, with all of the violations either underlined or circled in red ink...which was everything on the list.
"What the hell have you been doing?! That mountain is no excuse for your bungling! That is the reason you are here in the first place! I have already removed your command on this planet into the hands of Lt. T'sao; an inferior officer, but he's much better in command than you are!"
He snatched the report back before Cane could even read it. "I can't believe how complicated it is for you to conquer these primitive warmbloods. You, Major, are nothing but a piece of miserable algae-covered scum!"

Inferior officers? Yes, Cane thought, that about sums you up you miserable waste of flesh. He reached out and pushed the clipboard out of the way.
"We work with what we have. I'd like nothing better than to build a better fortress, but whatever you've been sending hasn't been reaching us. The conscripts I get send have only basic training. Perhaps you should be talking to someone in the quartermasters office?"

"Maybe I will," Ximenex nodded. "But then, it is...sorry, was your responsibility to examine the quartermasters' stock under regulations,"
He paused to look at the mountain, then turned back to Cane. "Dismissal from service appears to be more than grateful, I believe. If I had my way, I'd have you posted as dung-cleaner in a beetle-farm. So, count yourself lucky, Cane."
He snapped his mechanical claw shut and turned back to his Double-Bubble.

Cane shook his head irritably, then stepped forwards and tapped Ximerax on the shoulder.
"No."
He took a datapad out of his uniform.
"My orders come from KOMPLEX Central."

"And so do mine," Ximenex answered. "If you have any arguements, Major, I don't think it wise to be back-talking your superior. If you take orders from KOMPLEX Central, then I shall put my complaint towards them and see what our mighty leader thinks should be done."

I fought in the Noctur Two landing. I've fought on eight diffenent worlds and countless space battles. I'm five times the soldier you will ever be!
"I used to follow Grand Marshall Cyrus' orders. Now my orders come from KOMPLEX Central. You are a naval officer. You want to run this place? Fine. But do not presume to give me instructions."

"I think you'll find, Major, that under the Armo-Naval Pact, both the army and space-navy have equal rights to give orders regardless of position,"
He signalled to his servant, who began to inspect the Double-Bubble before launch.
"My only interest is to see that this place meets the levels of efficiency that mighty KOMPLEX sees fit. And if he is unhappy, then need I say more, Major?"

A couple of conscripts pulled the cover from the Double Bubble. Cane had never been any good at subtlety, and Ximerax's threat went straight over his head.
"That treaty was the only way idiots like Amadeus could get real soldiers to listen to them. We're under resourced, and we're still meeting slave capture quotas."

"Meeting them, yes, but you know full well that mighty KOMPLEX has demanded 200% from this base, and..."
Ximenexs' voice trailed off as he heard the word "idiot" slip from Canes' mouth. Seething slightly, he took a step forward towards Cane, and punched him hard on the nose with his mechanical arm. He stepped back as he watched the Major collapse to the floor.
"Be thankful that your remark only resulted in that," Ximenex hissed. "This arm has crushed the skulls of Toads with just a flinch."
He stormed towards the Double Bubble, preparing for launch.

FURY!
Cane made a move to rise, to destroy Ximerax with his bare hands. He didn't even get off the ground.
"Ndgerraggh."
He shook as his control neuroprogramming cut off his motive functions. All he could do was hiss in impotent rage as Ximerax made to leave.

"Bungling fool." Ximenex growled, and after boarding his Double-Bubble, both he and his assistant were gone.
