This the first of a three-part sequel to Sonic X - Rifts as requested by sonicheroes4ever. This is for you, my friend.
Sonic X: Collision - Part 1
Chapter One
"...and that's how it is," Chris Thorndyke sighed heavily after his lengthy monologue. "Those are the facts, and that's all I know right now,"
The friends looked at one another, each with the same concerned expression on their faces. If what Chris had told them was true, and he hadn't come back to Mobius just to play some sick prank, then it was time to get serious.
"So where is the little runt?" Knuckles sniffed from a corner of the room. For most of the time, he'd been quiet, letting Sonic and Tails do most of the talking, but now it was his turn.
"He's in the back room," Chris gestured with a thumb to the doorway behind him. "He's just as freaked as you are about all of this,"
"He was the first one to land here the last time," Tails reminisced aloud. "But why should he land on Earth? We all know the Master Emerald's not there!"
"That's something we'll have to figure out later," Sonic leaned forward in his chair, which had been resting against the wall. "Right now, let's hear what he's gotta say," As soon as Chris left the room, the friends began to mumble between themselves.
"Why are you so against him, Knuckles?" Amy asked with a slight frown. "You're not usually like this,"
"I dunno," Knuckles shook his head, his red dreadlocks waving freely behind him. "There's something about him that doesn't sit right with me. A sorta sixth sense, probably,"
"He seemed all right to me," Cream piped up for the first time that morning. "I think he was probably just frightened,"
"Yeah, and Knuckles probably didn't help much in that area," Sonic mused. "Anyway, as soon as he tells us his story, then maybe we can get to the bottom of things," As soon as Sonic had finished, Chris returned. His trailing, white lab-coat flapped about as he walked, hiding the figure that was trotting nervously behind him. As soon as Chris moved, all eyes in the room suddenly stared towards the doorway.
"OK, fuzzy," Sonic announced in a stern voice. "What happened to you between the Master Emerald overloading and you arriving on Earth?"
Mac O'Damia, his bushy, orange tail shivering with fear, told them all that he knew.
Chapter Two
"Yo, Fi, want some coffee?" Scourge the Hedgehog peered over the tip of his black sunglasses at the leather-clad vixen lying on the couch next to him. Her attention was on a page in the magazine she was reading.
"Whatever," came her terse response. Shrugging to himself, Scourge made his way over to the half-rusted coffee machine at the back of the room. He was beginning to wonder why he had even bothered coming back to Anti-Mobius. Respected though he was, Scourge's colleagues seemed to treat him like something stuck on their shoes.
As Scourge's gloved hands reached for the two cups at the end of the table, a sudden vibration from the next room sent them spinning off the worktop and smashing onto the floor. The noise awoke Fiona Fox from her daydreaming, and also ignited a deep feeling of rage within Scourge.
"Tails, you are so dead," Scourge snarled, and ran across to the door, appearing as a green blur to the startled Fiona, and tore it open. The Tails of Anti-Mobius, in comparison to his Mobian counterpart, was among the most obnoxious creatures known to civilisation, and it was this that frequently made Scourge prone to outbursts.
"What the hell are you doing, you little freak?!" he hissed, seething angrily. The stubby, pumpkin-furred fox turned his pockmarked face towards Scourge, a mischievous grin twisted across his sour features.
"Get a load of this, Scourge," he gestured to the widescreen computer monitor in front of him. "You remember when that jerk Mephiles started screwing around with the Chaos Control?"
"What about it?" the green hedgehog grunted, walking further into the room.
"Seems like it had a few repercussions for Sonic and his loser friends," Tails excitedly tapped the screen at the data in front of him, as though it were some valuable code.
After squinting at the monitor for a few moments, a slick, sinister grin spread across Scourge's thin lips.
Chapter Three
"Ever since the incident with Mephiles," Chris began after Mac had finished his discussion. "I've been doing some research back on Earth into all of these different universes surrounding ours. We have an experimental, high-frequency space telescope that we've been using to examine the numerous universes in the surrounding cosmos in the same way..."
"No need for all the details, Chris," Sonic responded impatiently. "Just tell us what's the result of all this,"
"Well," Chris faltered for a few moments, staring at Mac. The squirrel had taken a seat in between Tails and Sonic, and was now looking at the floor, with his pith helmet almost completely obscuring his head. "There is...was just one universe that separated this universe from that in which Scourge belongs,"
"Was?" Knuckles raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean by that?"
"When Mephiles tried to tap the Chaos Control, he opened several rifts in the space/time continuum," Chris continued. "But in the process, one of those rifts became so great that it destroyed that one universe that was previously a buffer-zone with Scourge's world. And that universe belonged to..."
There was no need for Chris to finish his sentence. It was somewhat obvious what he was about to say to them by now: Mac O'Damia, as a result of his travels on Mobius, was now the only survivor of his own universe.
"Woah, that's harsh," Sonic mumbled aloud, but was silenced by a nudge from Amy's elbow. From her angle, Amy could already see a single tear sliding down one of Mac's rounded cheeks, which briefly glistened from the light of the room before disappearing down his neck.
"It gets worse," Chris muttered aloud. "Much worse,"
Chapter Four
"Please tell me this isn't a joke!" Scourge wheezed joyfully as his eyes scanned the printout for the umpteenth time.
"It's no joke," Tails huffed. The remark was fast becoming Scourge's new catchphrase, and it was becoming annoying already.
"Have you double-checked this?" Fiona asked, snatching the printout from Scourge's hands. "You're absolutely sure this isn't a mistake?"
"Would I be showing it to you if it was?" Tails cocked an eyebrow at Fiona, who groaned in disgust. That look reminded her too much of the Mobian Tails, the nerd who once had feelings for her, and those memories she still hated.
"Well, this looks like another turnout for the books," Scourge grinned sickly, snatching back the printout. "Unless something short of a miracle happens, it looks like Sonic is going to face a challenge that he'll never work out!"
