OOC: I see that's been done, let's get back to this, then.
IC: Ximenex didn't know what to think. A newbie Cadet being transferred to the worst base the Empire could dish out? Whatever next?

"We spoke briefly, yes," Gilbrath replied.

"Indeed," put in Ximenex. "I would like to know what is so important to make the Major leave in such a hurry."

OOC: Okay then! I'll try this again...
At that moment, it was a ridiculous-looking Toad Lieutenant wearing elaborate, ancient-looking gold plate armor with blue trimmings that waited outside the base's command center --- emphasis on ridiculous as very few other toads, if any, had managed to grow facial hair, much less in a moustache and goatee combination --- to speak with the person in charge of the base. Lieutenant T'oad T'sao sighed, brushing his goatee with his fingers and trying not to let the cold get to him. He wouldn't lose even before his assignment begin, but the weather alone was making it difficult; at least his armor wasn't exactly for show, though, the embedded thermal devices underneath the armor plating keeping him at least sufficiently warm, to only mediocre success.
But while this was really his first assignment here with a small brigade of Stormtoads under his command, T'sao was confident that the 'student' of the great Air Marshal could make it here.
After all, didn't the great Tad Tzu emphasize that it wasn't numbers that won the wars...?

Ximenex was getting impatient.
He had come to inspect the base and without a statement from whoever was in charge, then Ximenex would also be in trouble for not taking any drastic action, but what could he do?

"Nope," Gilbrath said simply in response to Kvetch's question about Cane's whereabouts. "I didn't ask. I was too busy expecting the, uh, base. Such as it is."

"Certainly," replied Gilbrath. To Ximenex he said, "If that would please the Admiral."

Kvetch nodded to the two officers, turned and went into the barracks after the conscripts. Most now had their uniforms on, but a few were still half dressed or half asleep. Kvetch's presence seemed to galvanise them into action.
"Curm on, curm on! Naw shilly-shallyin'! Geht yer gear an' OUT OUT OUT!"
Some still struggling into their uniform, the conscripts hurried past him, left the barracks and headed for the armoury in the communications centre.

"As you know no doubt know Admiral, we're not exactly very big here. We make the occasional slave raid, sending our troops out there into the harsh environment. Only the strongest, hardiest toads can survive in this place for an extended period of time. This isn't a planet for tadpoles." Gilbrath chuckled sardonically, then remembered himself and cleared his throat. "Anyway there's not much to see, and I was never very good at suggestin' things so is there anything specific you wished to inspect besides the generator, Admiral?"

OOC: Sorry I took too long, I've just come back from holiday, and I've a LOT of catching up to do.
IC: "Yes, Corporal Kvetch made it aware that the base was rather small, and I'm just waiting for the barracks to be cleared so I can..." he suddenly noticed T'oad T'sao nearby. "Who's that?"

"Well," T'sao said to himself in a pleasantly-surprised, heavily-accented voice as he straightened himself promptly and stood at attention at the sight of the Admiral. He had not expected Ximenex to be here; nobody had told him Ximenex would be. Nevertheless, it was nice that such a high-ranked officer was here where T'sao was assigned, even if the Admiral only was here on inspection --- perhaps this assignment wouldn't be so backwater, after all.
T'sao saluted towards Ximenex and waited for the Admiral to address him first, as per standard Toad 'never talk until talked to' procedures for saluting higher-ranked officers.

Kvetch looked up as he saw T'sao approaching.
Anuver offisah? Where were they all comin' from? Ah this rate, there were goin' t' be more offisahs thun troopers!
He followed the conscripts into the communications centre.
