(He was saluting Ximenex. Sorry about the mixup.)
T'sao was indeed saluting, but his eyes were on Ximenex --- it was as apparent as his virtually complete non-acknowledgement of Kvetch as the Korporal and the conscripts then disappeared into the communications center. Otherwise, T'sao simply kept waiting, although he was otherwise getting a little impatient (but, like the good little Toad Tactician he is, his facial expression was a picture of calm and did not show it).

Ximenex walked up to T'sao and returned the salute.
"Well, who are you then, soldier? Are you based here?" Ximenex asked calmly, as his grabber-arm chattered its' "teeth" in the cold.

"Admiral, I am Lieutenant Toad T'sao, and I had been assigned here to reinforce Imperial operations on this planet and assist in dealing with the native insurgents." T'sao was otherwise a picture of almost-perfect military discipline, other than a distasteful wince at the word 'native'. He lowered his salute after Ximenex does. "I am in charge of the 55th Stormtoads Platoon which had arrived only an hour ago."

"I see, Lieutenant," Ximenex answered with a slight hint of interest on his face. Once again, Ximenexs' bodyguards were jotting down all that was said.
"And does Major Cane know of your presence here, or are you a stranger to this planet as well?"

T'sao stroked his goatee in an attempt to be regal-looking.
"I would think not, Admiral," The Lieutenant answered with slight indignance. "Otherwise, no offence meant, I wouldn't be made to wait here for so long."

With Kvetch at their heels, the conscripts filed down into the armoury with efficiency verging on acceptable -thought that didn't stop him taking the opportunity to kick a few stragglers-. Weapons were taken from racks, uniforms straightened, and a semblance of order established.
"Fall in!"
The conscripts formed two ranks, with a certain amount of competition for the places furthest away from the Korporal. Kvetch knew that some of them technically had the same rank as him. Fortunately none of them were stupid enough to press the point.
"Awah base is bein' visi'id by Admiral Ximerax! In a moment you are going to return to the surface and form up for inspection! I expect nothing sort of a perfect turn out. Make sure that your uniform heaters are on. I don't want anyone freezin' 'emselves. All ready? Good! Single file, quick march!"
Though not normally given to precise organisation, the conscripts apparently knew what was good for them. They made their way back to the surface and assembled in four lines a little way from Ximerax and T'sao. Kvetch took a walk around them to try and spot obvious untidiness. Finding nothing he walked back to the Admiral.

"We'll continue this later." he spoke to T'sao, and turned to Kvetch.

Ximenex inspected the men, and found their uniform to be worn correctly, but very filthy, with some of them missing perhaps a shirt button or a bootlace and soforth.
After the inspection, Ximenex asked to look at one of the stormtoads' rifles, looked into the barrel and then to Kvetch.
"Corporal," he frowned sternly. "Kindly explain this." He tipped the barrel to face the ground, and several cigarettes landed over the floor from the inside of the gun.

Something nasty was going to happen to someone for putting Kvetch in this position.
"Werl sir, we ain't exac'ly ah tha top o' tha sector quartermaster's resuply list awt 'ere. As fer tha f*gs, what I reckon 'appened there was tha' a couple of navies wantin' a puff went into the armoury awt o' tha cold. Reson bein', we don't geht 'em 'ere. Major's orders. In't really any way they could belong t' anyone local."
OOC: What? I can't write 'fags'?

"Whether they belong to a local or not is irrelevant, Corporal," Ximenex hissed, and smashed the gun to pieces with his pincer-arm. As the grabber chewed up the gun, Ximenex continued to speak.
"There is no rule against smoking on or off-duty, but to use imperial equipment like a common cigarette case is something I cannot overlook!"
His grabber finally released the twisted mound of scrap-metal and slammed it to the cold floor.
"I have seen enough!" Ximenex snarled. "As of now, I am passing this base into the responsibility of Lieutenant T'sao and Officer Cadet Gilbrath! Corporal, I expect you and Major Cane to return to the homeworld at once once the Major returns."
He then looked at the men around him. "And you can take that shower of soldier-wannabes with you!"

Yes... something with flame throwers...
Kvetch maintained his composure by picturing violent, crippling accidents happening to the Admiral. He was slightly surprised that his neuroprogramming didn't seem to be suppressing them. He decided to adopt a manner of exaggerated helpfulness.
"I am so dreadfully sorry sir. I shall, as you say, return to the homeworld with my metaphorical tail between my legs. How dare they, with all of four weeks experience, not already be equal to the best in the empire. I am discussed with both them and myself, for not exercising any of the authority I don’t have over them. So, in what will probably be my larst act as an NCO in the service of the great Toad empire... what do you want done with the transport full o'slaves we brought back from Urgonia?"

Gilbrath winced as Ximenex mangled the gun. He was about to mention how hypocritical it was of the admiral to rant about misuse of the weapon while destroying it when he heard Ximenex mention he'd be in command alongside T'sao.
His eyes widened, but he only nodded and remained standing rigid where he stood, eyeing Kvetch warily as the corporal spoke, wondering if perhaps Admiral Ximenex would order him shot.
"Kvetch," he hissed quietly. "That's no way to talk to an admiral. Apologize this instant, Corporal!"

"It is no matter, Gilbrath," Ximenex calmed down.
"Corporal, you will be entitled to stay in the military, but your troops will all be discharged once Lt. T'sao brings in his division of Stormtoads,"
He paused for a moment. "Corporal Kvetch, if you are so disgusted, then why have you allowed 34 breaches of regulations to slip by? As of now, you are demoted back to Private and you will be transferred to the Swamp Moons of Drenthax 4, as a security guard. Understood?"

"I let them 'slip by' because I have authori'y over my own squad, not ovah tha whole of tha base. But... Drenthax isn't so bad. Be nice to go somewhere warm fer a bit. What about them slaves then?"
