Yet another kooky, off-the-wall idea from me. I'm a huge fan of classic and/or cheesy science fiction movies from the 50s and 60s, especially British Hammer Horror. So this little beauty (which I've already shared with Rygar), is very much inspired by such, uh, "classic" titles as "The Vampire Beast Craves Blood" and "Island of Terror."
While on routine patrol, the Righteous Indignation comes across a ship drifting through space. What few crew they find aboard are all mysteriously dead, their corpses completely devoid of bones. A quick background check reveals that the vessel is a supply ship that was reported M.I.A. after it left dock with the deep-space research station Aegis 1, run by reclusive scientist Dr. Anton Aegis, who owns the AegTech company, which, according to Bucky, specializes in medical research.
Naturally, Bucky and co. have got to get to the bottom of this, so they decide to pay a visit to Aegis 1. Once they arrive, it isn't long before they get to the root of the whole "no bones" problem with the dead crew of the cargo ship: Dr. Aegis and his colleagues, working on a cure for bone deficiency diseases, have accidentally created a horrific and ghastly artificial race of creatures that must eat bone matter to survive.
Confronted by seemingly indestructible and constantly hungry monsters that don't want to just eat them, but only a part of them, the crew of the Righteous find themselves fighting for their lives while trying to figure out how to kill these things. Is this the end of Bucky O'Hare, or will he and his friends survive to fight the toads another day? Will the pretentious plot descriptions ever stop? The answer is yes to the first question, and not likely to the second. ;D
Obviously, the creatures in question eat the bones of their victims and nothing else, due to their having a calcium-high metabolism. If this sounds too gruesome just let me know, although I figured nothing's more disgusting than after the whole exploding toad thing in "Ronin Steel."
