Ewww. The new Captain Scarlet is just nasty, in an unnecessary homoerotic sort of way.
Don't dismiss HitchHikers Guide just yet. The TV series, although good, was never perfect, and the film boasts not only a terrific looking cast but the script approval of Dougie himself before he left us - he had wanted to make the film for years....
They've even kept the TV and radio series' original theme music (without having to add senseless distorted guitar or trance beats). I'm not saying it'll be wonderful, just saying it won't be your average hackneyed off-the-conveyor-belt update.
WOTW, meanwhile, should probably have been left alone. That of HG Wells' back catalogue which hasn't yet been bastardised is slowly running out. Wonder when Hollywood will reach John Wyndham....?

It disgusted me but I've not thought of it as homoerotic In what way do you think it is? What John Wyndham stories? Day of the Triffids again? Kraken wakes? What pees me off about remakes and book to film transitions is the way that no director can leave a good story alone. They've always got to put their mark on it and basically ruin it.

To me, Captain Scarlet was suddenly beefed up into some Top Gun-esque macho marine along with his buddies and Gerry Anderson was trying to physically inject testosterone (in its liquid form) into the celluloid. Unpleasant description this may be, but look at the Supermarionation again and you may pick up on what I mean. Wyndham has only been scraped by B-movie producers so far with Chocky (my favourite - average flick though) and Triffids, of course. The Kraken Wakes might make a great film if given to Spielberg, Luc Besson or James Cameron, men who know their sci-fi movies, but I'm not sure it's high-profile enough. Personally I'd love to see them use some of the Consider Her Ways stories, maybe not as feature films as they aren't long enough (unless you pulled off an Ian Fleming and extrapolated the original story to make film-length). As long as Michael Bay isn't allowed to touch anything of his with a barge pole, I'll be happy. Book to film transitions are two completely different mediums using the same source material. At least, that's what I've always thought. I am fanatical about both mediums and always favour judging such adaptations on their individual merits. The fact is, a film is NEVER, EVER going to stay true to a book because it's an entirely visual representation. It's re-ordered in a director's imagination (sometimes lack thereof ) to try and make sense on celluloid. Successful books will forever be bastardised by the film industry and I say, before you judge harshly, consider that somewhere in the recesses of that dark pool of hackneyed evils may lie a possible genuine willingness to create art. Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, for example, is a new rendering of the book rather than a remake of the Gene Wilder original.... and given Burton's track record I would say that such a subversively dark story as CATCF is in very safe hands. Hitchhikers, meanwhile, is in the hands of people who worked with Adams before his death and therefore surely can't be so sacrilegious. I also like the Lord of the Rings films far better than the books...

Heh, sorry. Too wordy and over-complex for my liking. Tolkien's vision of creating an entire world, IMO, works far better on screen.
Looking forward to Mr Jackson's King Kong remake?

Erm... well i can't actually say im a fan of jackson I didn't really think much of LOTR but thats because i thought it was far too hollywood and strayed way too far from the books. I thought Braindead was kewl... in a, lets use up all the surplus fake blood in the world and make a film outta it way.

I prefered the old Captain Scarlet myself, but I've really no complaints of the new one as I haven't seen it.
I've a rare model of Captain Magenta at home that I found by accident! It's a rare Japanese model kit complete with a Build-It-Yourself MSV (Maximum Security Vehicle).
