Ok guys, I'm having a problem. I already have countless original compositions that I made with my guitar. But I only have chords and no lyrics. I basically suck at making lyrics and I'm just hoping you guys will help me with it

I basically have a rock and acoustic style, the current song that I want lyrics for is acoustic. I want it to be about a guy who's in love with his friend but doesn't know how to tell her.

Hmm, you picked a nice topic there, friend. I've written something a bit similar myself and if it wasn't so personal I'd post it here for your assistance. I can direct you to a few pointers I kept in mind while trying to write... This is just my writing style, though, and you might have different influences altogether, but I hope these help just a little bit. - Never actually say "I love you but don't know how to tell you" in any form, or make any direct declarations of any kind. This, I discovered, is bad. - Be as metaphorical as poss, but not-up-your-own-backside metaphorical. Think of the best thing she reminds you of and use it maybe as a theme for the song (or the name!), like, I don't know, a blossom in the spring. (just an example here ) - Imply somewhere in the song that the whole rest of the world is laughable compared to her. This usually provides a great moment in the song if rightly supported by the music. - Think of some incredibly special moment that the two of you shared and base maybe a verse on it or something. Keep the potentially creepy stalker-esque factor at bay here. - Use a mixture of poetry, imagery and real-life inspiration. This normally requires you to think of some unspeakably, brilliantly beautiful line that no-one has ever thought of before, which unfortunately ain't too easy....! - You could build the song up musically, make it epic towards the finish, then bring it down to an intimate acousticky note right at the end. Not all songs work with this structure but some can be absolutely fantastic as a result. Although not my fave musicians, I always look at either Jeff Buckley or Nick Drake as examples of this sort of style working really well. My two penneth there, hope it can be of some help! And best of luck, falling for friends is an absolute b*tch...

It can be a b*tch, but i've been going out with one of my best friend for 2 years now. So if it's a song with personal meaning don't be disheartened Dahaka Uhm...Thanks for the advice? But I'm not really in love with my friend. I just want to make a song that I can sing to when I have free time. Sure its satisfying to make your own compilation of notes in the guitar, but putting lyrics just makes it even better. And besides, I dont have friends that are girls, only a few (like 7) and I can swear that we're only friends and I dont see them as anything more. If ever I would be able to hit a record, I'll scrap those lyrics and make one that suites my life. BUt a song doesn't necesarily mean it has to be about your life. I can be problems or issues, like a death in a family, how hard it is and that kind of stuff. If the song woud be about my life, I'd make a song about not letting anyone put you down and keep going, dont stop pushing on your life But thanks anyway for the advice if I ever need it, Gyver(and for the tips) and Whitehind. And If you guys or any other members of the MB have lyrics that they made on their own and they would like to share, please post it, but only if its ok with you. I'm not asking for you guys to think of lyrics now just to help me out. I'm leaving that decision to you. -Razgriz

As I horribly suck in music department, you will gain no aid from me except my prayers. XD
Good luck with the song writing, Dahaka. But were you doing an English song?

If you've got them in electronic format, feel free to toss them at you. ...I should prolly try out this whole English Minor / Music Minor business, huh?

Hey I think you have the guts to write your own song its quite impressive that you composed already. Like wat most Punk rockers do they write from whats inside . Try writing from your own personal experiences.

Thats what I'm trying to do now, I ditched all my lyrics that were usually about random stuff. Now I'm struggling to write really meaningful songs
