Tina shook Shirley's paw gently with her right hand, trying not to think of how awkward the handshake is.
"Well, then. You can start us off, Shirley."

"Well," Shirley begins. "This is the Aniverse in the year 3226. We mammals are currently at war with the Toads, who plan to turn this entire universe into a gigantic ecosystem and to exterminate all mammals. We have some hairless baboons working for us, but I'm afraid that you are detained as it was unauthorized."

"Well, I take it these 'Hairless Baboons' are what you call us Humans in this Aniverse," Tina nodded. She could understand this part, at least --- most of it, anyway. "So I also take it that there's also Baboons with hair in this Aniverse. And I guess it's fair enough; if you ended up in my Universe as I had ended up in yours, my government would do the same thing."
Tina straightened herself. Her turn.
"Anyway. I'm a combat pilot from the United Earth Nation Space Force, 2nd Mechanical Cavalry Division, in 0035 of the Revolutional Century --- I guess..." Tina lowered her head to think, fiddling with fingers occasionally, and finally looked back at Shirley again with a wry smile.
"...That'd be the equivalent of the year 2132 in my Universe. The United Earth Nation is the standing government on Earth, my home planet, and the surrounding Earth Sphere; as for its enemies, hmm...I'd have to say we're fighting a civil war against the CIF, the Colonial Independence Front, which consists of the governments and military forces from most Space Colonies in this Earth Sphere. Which, if you consider the fact that we're actually fighting other 'Hairless Baboons' like me, would make that a civil war."
"Sounds like the Toads are pretty nasty, though," Tina sighed at that. Shirley's turn? "How did this whole war start? Why do the Toads want to exterminate all mammals to begin with?"

"The start of this war goes back to the previous war," Shirley pauses, finding it awkward to remember.
"Back in the First Toad War, we were at war with the Toads for the first time. They used to be a peace-loving race, but the warmongering General Vilestrom attacked one of our bases on Gaul 1. Our army leader, Field Marshal Gaigh, fought back but all that came out was bloodshed. The Toads had 20 million men in their army at first, and us mammals had 17 million. By the end of the war. The toads had only one man in their army, and we had 8 survivors with a further 75 being invalided out for numerous reasons,"
Shirley catches her breath and continues.
"More recently, a computer system named KOMPLEX usurped the Toad Government and sent them back to war, this time to rule the entire Aniverse for himself rather than his people. He's made attempts to attack your universe in times gone past, but luckily he failed."

(Remember to ask a question after your answer so Tina can respond better ^^)
"Thankfully." Tina agreed, shuddering. This doesn't sound too different than the war the UEN was stuck in now --- last Tina checked, that is --- if much larger-scaled. Seeing that it was her turn, Tina paused for a moment to think of what she can tell Shirley.
Finally, Tina looked back up again. "I guess the war in my universe is similar in that it has roots in a previous war. 35 years ago, the UEN was established on Earth, but it was nothing like the Aniverse-wide UAC you 'mammals' seem to have; back then, it was only a small Principality, and all the other Principalities around it began fighting all over the Earth Sphere. It took four years of fighting for the UEN to finally unite the entire Earth Sphere and become the standing government of the time.
"Not everyone was happy, of course, in particular the Space Colonies who became increasingly unhappy with the way the UEN ruled them from Earth. Eventually, the Colonies finally banded together and formed the CIF --- mainly, they were demanding complete independence from the UEN, so I guess it's not nearly as bad as this KOMPLEX --- and began waging war against us. That was only a year ago in my time.
"If you ask me, though, that was only half the reason...the CIF, I think, had some sort of 'legend' they associated with their starting this war, but I think it's all a bunch of baloney."
Tina stretched herself.
"So how's the war going for you? I hope you guys are faring better..."

"It is tolerable," Shirley mutters. "But the arrival of this "Chuck Bodgers" character is certainly putting ease on us. As he's from Earth, I was wondering if you ever heard of him?"

Tina's eyes widened at that --- it seemed she wasn't the only one thrown here, after all.
"No, I haven't a clue who that may be, but..."
Then, Tina took a deep breath.
"...Does the name Willy Duwitt mean anything to you?"

Shirleys eyes widen in surprise. "Yes, he happens to be a warp-drive mechanic for Captain O' Hare. So you know of him also?"

Tina nodded mutely --- she did. But not in the way everyone else here knew of him.
"Well, yeah. Sort of." Tina frowned, and edged herself closer to the bars; so if this UAC was the same UAC Tina heard about --- and if this was the same Willy Duwitt --- perhaps Willy was right, after all. "Remember that civil war in my Universe I was talking about? And that they had some sort of phooey legend behind their war?
"...Twelve years before that, the Clover Leaf space colony --- which was the headquarters of the CIF right now --- claimed that some prophet in the form of a child came to them from an uncharted corner of space; they said that this prophet, claiming to be from a future of doom, gave them all the advanced technology they needed so that 'they wouldn't make the same mistakes'. Somewhere along the line, I guess they decided that not making the same mistakes constituted fighting a war of independence against Earth with that advanced technology...but that's how the CIF said they were formed."
Tina paused, letting this sink in with Shirley.
"So how did one Willy Duwitt come into play in my world?" Tina's eyes narrowed bitterly a little at the mention. "Well, you're not going to like hearing about this, Shirley, I can tell you this..." A sigh. "But twelve years ago, a Clover Leaf patrol responded to a strange distress signal from near their airspace and found a strange, heavily-damaged ship nobody's ever seen before. In that ship were two survivors: one was unknown and unidentified, but the other...well, guess who that was? That's right --- some boy claiming that his name was Willy Duwitt.
"Of course, back then, since there was no records of him anywhere on Earth or in Space, we had to take his word for it. But that's not all Willy was ranting about after he was rescued, no; he was also ranting that he was involved in another war in another Aniverse, that he was virtually the only survivor of a government of mammals, and that, well, a race of malicious, brainwashed Toads were coming to Earth to make it theirs, as well. Clover Leaf didn't believe him at first, but the other survivor, the wrecked ship, and Willy giving them technology beyond anything the UEN's ever used before eventually got the CIF to believe him very, very much. I guess Willy didn't really trust the CIF, either --- he only showed up on Earth about two years ago, and I think he tried giving us that advanced technology as well. That prototype that survived with me was probably something he helped create."
Another pause there.
"The reason why you wouldn't want to hear it is...well, are you sure you want to hear it?" Tina waited, and finally finished. "Willy was ranting that a certain UAC lost the first war against the Toads, and that the Toads, in turn, annihilated every mammal in that Aniverse in its wake. That was why he said Earth was next. If you ask me, I still think he was mad...but he sounded very convinced when my Universe met him."

Shirley is so shocked by the news that she has turned a deathly white. "Holy Grubvars!" she shrieks. "We lost the war?!" She immediately releases Tina from her cell.
"Tina, I trust you and the fate of the Aniverse lies in the balance. From what you've told me, the future of everything we've worked for could be suddenly turned into a living hell, but if you can help me, we can together try and change history!"

Tina was at once surprised.
"...Whoa, calm down, Shirley! Take deep breaths, put your mind off of it, just stay there and...relax a bit, okay?" Tina blinked; the door was open, but she wasn't walking out yet, not until Shirley was perfectly calm and rational again. She crossed her arms and waited and, when she was sure Shirley was calm enough to listen again, Tina piped up once more. "You don't have to be that panicked; not even I'm sure that all those things on my Universe would happen in yours, right?
"Willy...well, he wouldn't have rang everyone's alarm buttons like that if things weren't serious, true, but you and I can't be too sure that what he said happened in your world would come to pass...well, again, anyway. After all, the Toad Invasion that the Willy in my world said was coming never really came to pass; all we fought were other Humans using your technology, remember? Maybe you guys won't lose your war even if that Willy did, hmm?"
Tina tried to smile wryly at Shirley to further calm her down.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you guys are doing fine. Do your best, fight in earnest, and eventually you'll beat them. I still believe the UEN still stands a chance back home and I believe your UAC does, too." Then, she finally stretched and took a calm step out of the cell. "But if you want my help, you have it --- win or lose, it beats just sitting here, don't you think? Being a soldier of the UEN won't mean anything here, but I'll do what I can, Shirley, if your UAC'll have my help, that is..."

"Tina, I can assure you that the UAC will be more than pleased to assist the UEN in any way possible." Shirley replies, taking deep breaths to calm herself down.

Tina nodded, and found herself glad for what had transpired --- despite the prospects of entering war once again. "Well, after I help you and you've won your war, just help me find a way back to my Universe and we'll call it even.
"Either rate, I suppose you'll want to report in, so..." At that, Tina shrugged, and beckoned for Shirley to lead the way. "Lead on, Shirley! I'm right behind you!"

Outside of Tina's cell, behind the wall that ceperates it from the rest of the planet...
In a darkened, forbidding alley way next to the prison, an enourmous figure listened in on the conversation held by Tina and Shirley, using high tech devices designed for such purposes. At the sound of Tina's imminant departure from the cell, he knew he had to act fast. While his orders had been to simply gather information on the newcomer, he also had orders to capture her if necessary. And Justin Pax would be damned if he allowed her slip out of his sights so easily.
Picking up the high powerd blowtorch he had brought with him should it have come to this, he cut a door shaped upening in the wall, and violently kicked it down. His eyes beheld the sight of the UAC officer Shirley, and his target, fellow human Tina.
Putting on his most frightful voice, he said calmly, "I'm afraid you'll be going nowhere, miss Tina. Komplex will have far greater use for you than the UAC ever could!"

"Oh, really?" Tina glared, unimpressed, back at Justin and noted the man's muscular frame, uniform and modified Stormtoads' helmet. She had to admit that he dwarfed her in the physical aspect and probably could take her down hand-to-hand, but if there was one thing the UEN Academies had taught her that she had actually listened to, it was that physical strength wasn't the only thing to being a soldier. "First off, if you're trying to be a pro wrestler, don't bother; I don't like that sport. Second off, KOMPLEX...Well, if you're with that thing, I take it you're one of the bad guys, so no."
Tina frowned. Was this guy stupid in addition to being incredibly arrogant? "Third, you are aware that this is an UAC base, aren't you? All we have to do is ring the alarm, and you'll be swarmed by mammal troops in no time flat. I don't care who you think you are, if we do that, you're not getting out of here alive, period!"
Tina decided the obvious course of action was to stall this trooper, and beckoned for Shirley to alert everyone else of this trooper's presence. Quickly.
"So, Shirley, I don't think I need you here. Why don't you go and, uh, file a report or something?" Was Tina's smirking reply, waving her hand behind her back while keeping a straight glare at Justin. "And as for you, why don't we make a deal? You walk away and leave me alone, and I'll do the same."
