I'm really, truly, terribly sorry about this, but my daylight basement just flooded from a channel beneath our foundation. the carpets are soaking wet. Water is rising from beneath the floor and gushing up from cracks in the garage. I can't write any longer as I'll have to spend the next few days trying to contain this damage.

hoo that's bad news. It'll take some time to clean up things.
On the other hand, more time for me to do the last art,...

Good luck WatsonSword! Are you doing the repairs yourself or have you contacted a repairman? 0:-)

What we're trying to do is keep repairs from being needed by renting industrial carpet cleaners and constantly sucking up the water that comes up from under the ground, and by putting an electric pump through our drainage system to force the water out into the streets.

Just today we dug more trenches, installed a electric pump in our french drain, and are now drying out the carpets, which will tomorrow morning be dusted with baking soda and then steam cleaned a few days later. I can start working on the script again tomorrow morning and, barring some other disaster, it should be up next Sunday, the 19th.

If you'll forgive the poor choice of phrases here, it sounds like you've really had one of those months when it rains, it really pours. Flooded basements are a real pain. Best of luck averting any major damages.
