Kvetch grins as he hears one of the conscripts shout 'Quiet, runt!' and then the sound of a shock baton discharge. Hadn't taken them too long to pick up mindless brutality. He entered the barrack hut and walked up to Admiral Ximerax.

"Well, Kvetch, what's the news of the Lieutenant?" Ximenex asked, rolling up the survey map.

Ximenex immediately caught sight of the two conscripts dragging Milo away.
"You two!" he ordered. "Where is Major Cane?"

The two conscript pilots turned away from Milo and came to attention.
"Sir! North of here, sir. Near the mountain M357d!"

Ximenexs' second guard unfolded the survey map and pinpointed the position. Ximenex dismissed the conscripts, and examined the map.
"85 miles away? What the devil is he playing at?" muttered Ximenex, and turned to Kvetch.
"Kvetch, I need you to keep an eye on the base during my absence. See if you can find where Gilbraith has gone. I need to speak to the Major at once."
He marched back into the cruiser, and prepared a Double-Bubble for launch.

Milo was forced into the communication centre, then into the life into the holding area beneath the base. Kvetch walked over to the desk, took hold of the microphone and switched it to local broadcast. What had Gilbrath been doing? Oh yes...
"Kvetch to Officer Cadet Gilbrath. Please report to the communication centre at the next convenient moment."
Kvetch returned the mike to its stand and leaned back against the desk. How long could it take to pick which slaves to send?

"No one wants to here anything you could say, runt."
A pale pink film descended across the opening to the cell.
