The pilots turn their back on the cell.
"Did Kvetch say he wanted to talk to the birdy?"
"Not to me. And I don't intend to check."
"Fine then. Lets see what's going in the mess."

Gilbrath entered the communications center looking sullen. "You wanted to speak to me?" he asked Kvetch, dressed in his arctic survival gear but with his officer's cap perched neatly on his head.

As all this was going on, Ximenex soon returned from giving Cane a good yelling, and slowly touched down inside his cruiser.

Ximenex stepped in and looked over at Gilbraith and Kvetch.
"Thank goodness I've found you two," he mumbled. "Evidently, Major Cane is more incompetent than anyone gives him the credits for. Until Lt. T'sao is well, I cannot leave, and thus you two are in control of the base."

That struck Kvetch as rather odd. The Admiral certainly wasn't one to hide his negative opinions, and yet the Major didn't seem to have reacted violently. Quite out of character. Unfortunetly, that made getting rid of him Kvetch's problem.
"Very kind a'ya, sir. Will you be stayin' wiv us yerself?"

"I haven't any choice," answered Ximenex sullenly. "But during my stay, I would like to see at least some effort made to make this base fully functional according to the requested imperial standard; that's all I ask."

"If you'll excuse me, sirs, I believe I'll go and see how the prisoner is doing," said Gilbrath.
